Granted, I use it for voice and video calling too, but it's easier than using two different platforms. Skype has everything I need in one place.

I rarely use my Skype anymore. And the only time I used video chat was with my fiancee when we were going to different colleges.

Now, I have since lost my webcam and have no intentions of trying to find it. I hate video chat because I feel far more awkward than just text chat. Heck, just IMing is hard enough for me it seems. I can't carry on a conversation if my life depended on it and it's even worse if people can see my face\hear my voice. Guess that's why I never use it.

But yeah, I've really only used Skype to IM.

I don't have a problem with Skype being used to IM and in fact when it comes to XL it's almost exclusively IM.

I enjoy the flexibility Skype offers since I do also video chat with family and I've personally found Skype less finicky about the whole package than Yahoo Messenger and similar stuff.

Really though the whole IM/Video/Audio debate mostly comes as a matter of preference since these days you have a couple of options that has the tools you need.

Video calling is really handy for long-distance friends/relationships, imo. I doubt I'm going to meet 99.99% of the people I've talked to on the internet, but the ones that I really do plan to meet and that I've talked to for long enough, I've video called with them. There's a point where if you want to be friends with someone off the internet, then you should probably show your face? Shadows and I weren't comfortable sharing our facebooks, so we decided to video call instead! Like, after posting for two years together and IMing each other almost constantly for the next couple of years, it's hard to be awkward even on video. That's my experience, anyway.

We keep getting snow up here. It will start to melt one day and the next, bam! Another 4-6 inches of snow. I'm so over it. We still have 4 foot snowbanks along the side of the roads.

I know that this is the UP (upper peninsula for all you non-Michigan folks ) but even this is ridiculous.


Going back to the chat - Yeah, I can definitely see your point there. But I just am uncomfortable with face-to-face conversations I guess. I have added only like 3 e-friends (that's what I call my internet buds) to my facebook but to be fair I've known them for years.

Yeah, I love video calling (or just calling) because there are definitely things that would take for-ev-er to type out or when you want to show something off (like, MERLIN DVDs!!) where a text picture just doesn't do the same thing. When Kelly and I have videochatted, it's usually not awkward (unless we're both like, surfing the internet- but if you're going to multitask, stick to IMing), in fact, it's unfortunate because we always seem to do it when we have like, homework to do and you can guess that that never gets done!

@Quin; Haha, I know how you feel. It was in the fifties and then I woke up the next day, and we'd gotten some snow and it had dropped back down to the twenties. Lucky for us though, it looks like spring is here to stay! I would be really, really upset if we were still getting snow.

Shadows, that would be a point against Skype. I have a really hard time getting my homework done quickly, since Shadows is either always talking/linking me stuff/quoting fanfiction at me (you see, we have a quote war going on, and I lost within the first hour). But yeah, it seems like whenever we video chat, I have a lot of homework, and end up doing homework till midnight because the "only five minutes" chat turned into one hour later...

I've tried to video chat and even just use audio with a friend, but he has terrible internet connection and I have a terrible computer so we both have laggy/pixelated videos and we sound like robots xD but tbh I prefer IM, mostly because I get really awkward with face to face conversation.

Skype and Facebook-chat-thing both seem to fail at video calling on my computer, which sucks.

Also, what was this thing about selling souls? Because it's not a very productive market at the moment. Nowadays tons of people are selling their souls to the Devil to get rich quick, or famous, or pretty. So many are doing it that the price has collapsed...

...On the other hand, there's always the black market.
