Here are some instructions, ask if you have any questions. If not, our previous game, M&P: Evolution was a fantastic example of a good game, hosted by our lovely Koneko on Lyoko with the help of Cats and Snickie as our murderer and our Psychic.
- Instructions/How to for M&P:
Anyway, here’s a neat little summary of what exactly goes on when playing Murder and Psychic (most commonly called M&P for short)!
Who — the host, a murderer, a psychic, regular members
What — The murderer kills one person off by round (can be either regular members or the psychic). The psychic tries to hint in the thread who the murderer is by pointing to clues that are hidden in the scenes that the host(s) writes. The trick is that the psychic needs to act like a regular member and arouse no suspicion so that the murderer doesn’t kill him off. Once the psychic is gone, he’s gone for good for this game. The regular members also try to figure out the clues though they have no indication of whether they’re guessing right or not — the psychic doesn’t necessarily need to guess right, he just needs to make logical connections.
How — There are as many rounds as can be done. The game will either end because the murderer has been voted off (and therefore cannot kill anyone anymore) or because the murderer has made it to the end of the game without getting voted off. Voting will be done by PMs. You PM the host(s) with your vote of whom you think is guilty of being the murderer and the votes are all tallied up. If there is a tie, no one gets voted off. It doesn’t happen too often though, so usually there’s one person voted off every round. One thing to remember is that voting is crucial! The murderer will still kill people whether or not someone gets voted off that round, and if you don’t vote…if the murderer decides to vote and his vote is the only vote, then his vote does indeed make it that an innocent person is voted off. Really guys. We need to get this ebil murdurur here. Let’s not be counterproductive.
When — As I said, there are rounds. Before the first kill, the host usually writes a short and sweet (or lovely and long) introduction scene showcasing all of the people that will be playing M&P this game. It’s just a fun thing that sets the scene for the whole game. Past games have dealt with going to an amusement park (and getting murdered!) and going to a very much tangible Xana’s Lair Forums as a group (and getting murdered!). The setting is basically anything the host feels like writing. After the introduction scene and after getting a few comments on it (it’s always nice to garner interest), the host posts the first murder scene. Everyone who’s playing (but the host and the person who just got killed off) discusses the murder and what he or she think the actual clues are — the host/murderer is allowed to put false clues in to trick everyone. There’s a deadline that the host will set for sending the votes in for whom you think the murderer is, and to send your votes in, you PM the host (or hosts if there’s more than one host). The votes are tallied and either another murder scene is written if someone gets killed off, a capture is written if the murderer gets voted off, or a safe scene is written if there’s a tie/no one gets voted off.
- Kelly's Impossibly long Q&A: Click at your own caution:
☆ Can I still comment and discuss about the murders in this thread if I've been voted off/killed?
No, because those evil people who voted you off or that evil person who killed you off have taken this privilege away from you. I'd suggest you start screaming at them/attempting to kill them. RIGHT. NOW. (no, really)
☆ Can I discuss M&P with people over chatbox/YIM/other chatting services?
Well, yes, you technically can. I can't stop you. Enzo can't stop you. Even Kayla or Shadows, our admins can't stop you. But it'd be nice if you didn't because M&P isn't half as much fun if everyone knows who is who. The suspense and mystery is really part of M&P's charm!
☆ How are the murderer and psychic chosen?
Honestly, getting volunteers is the way to go. It's best to have a willingvictimvolunteer rather than the host having to PM someone to be the murderer/psychic. And what do you have to do? All you have to do is ask! ;] You can just PM the host (if there's two hosts, please PM both). It is first come, first serve, though. So PM quickly if you really want the position.
☆ If I PM the host about being the murderer/psychic, is there an approximate time frame of when they should be getting back to me?
I'm just going to say that we'll have a cookie-cutter reply ready. And when I say that, I mean, no matter which position you ask for, you're going to get the same answer: "You will find out if you have the position of the murderer/psychic (whichever one you asked for) at least a couple of days before the intro scene is written." I'm not trying to be mean about this, but because M&P does tend to get pretty intense and everyone is accusing each other, it would be pretty telling if someone asked to be the murderer and Enzo/I said that the spot had already been taken. This is because that person would then be able to hypothesise that the murderer/psychic had joined M&P (and therefore asked to be the murderer/psychic) before them.
☆ In the case that there is more than one host (a group hosting), can I just PM one host when PMing my vote?
Preferably not, if only because votes are way different than becoming the murderer or psychic. For one thing, if everyone's voting, there'll be ten-ish votes, give or take a couple. That just makes it more difficult for the hosts. The group hosting thing is a bit iffy now since I think Enzo and I are the first ones to try it (and even so, it was just this little tentative idea floating around chatbox; I've been pretty lazy about this and have no idea whether or not Enzo will actually be able to group host with me). In the future, there might be one host designated for receiving the votes, but I don't know. It all depends on how well this M&P goes.
☆ How long does a usual game of M&P take?
It depends on the time the host is able to spend on M&P. Obviously, the host has to give adequate time for everyone to get their votes in, since people have lives (there are these three tricky things called school, friends, and family). So for a voting period of a week (including the writing of the scenes and the intro scene) and with ten people playing, at the minimum it'd take one month and three weeks. And that's an extremely low estimate, mind you.
☆ Can the host get voted off?
Yeah, they can. They still have to write the scenes though, so it's not like you can actually get rid of them — I know. How terrible.
☆ Can the host also be the murderer/psychic?
Yeah, but I'd say it's pretty rare. But the option is there.
☆ How do I become the host?
M&P doesn't usually start with the host making a thread, honestly. It usually starts with a thread being made by one of the mods/admins and people sign up and sometime, somewhere along the way, someone volunteers to be the host. One thing to remember is that hosting requires a bit of your time. No, you don't have to have perfectly edited Stephen-King-worthy writing, but still...you do have to write something each time someone gets voted off or is killed by the murderer. The host also asks the murderer who they want to kill off, what clues the murderer wants to use, etc.
☆ Do I have to be active to join?
It'd be nice if you could post every once in a while. You know, offer your insight on the kills and it'd be super nice if you could vote each round. But people have things to do, places to go that most likely do not involving going to XL (which I should say is impossible, thank you very much). And this should go without saying, but the murderer and psychic most definitely need to be active. But obviously, if you have a family crisis and are overloaded with schoolwork, well no duh you should focus on that stuff first.

Bump.
Inbox looks awful empty right now. You know what it needs? Some murderer applications! Since, you know, it's kind of hard to play Murderer & Psychic when there's no murderer.

Yepyep.
Murderer applications are closed.
I'll see about writing the first scene as soon as I know who the murderer wants to kill.

Re: M&P: Carthage Troubles
Heh, not really.
This is my "I'm tired and my parents are harrassing me to do something useful with my life" version of an opening scene. xD
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Nine people suddenly found themselves suspended in midair in complete and total darkness. After a few seconds, nine plops on some kind of hard surface. Even if they hadn’t hit their heads when they landed, none of them could remember what they had been doing before they found themselves here, though many were sure that it was something important that didn’t involve dark scary places.
“Okay.... where are we?” a voice said.
“Neron? Is that you?”
“Cya?”
“Ugh, my head.”
“Is that you, Cats?”
“I’m over here... I think that was Atlas.”
“Ouch!”
“Whose foot am I stepping on?”
“That’s not my foot...”
“What’s going on in here?”
As if somebody had flipped a switch at that very second, the very room suddenly seemed to burst with blindingly bright blue light, and the nine inhabitants had to cover their eyes.
“Who turned on the lights?” Snickie complained.
“And how on earth did we get into these?” came Cat’s voice.
Snickie uncovered her eyes, along with everyone else, to stare at what her surroundings and attires. She wore a black-and-green cat suit not dissimilar to Odd’s season 4 outfit. Others did not fare well either: Cya looked like a Merlin rip-off, while Kay was decked out in blue and pink latex, Atlas was some kind of heathen god, and Neron a faun wearing a pink wizard’s coat. Also among them were a Roman gladiator, a Japanese schoolgirl, a pink sprite, and a sparklepire.
“Why... we’re on Lyoko!” said the gladiator with Cats’s voice.
“This is not fair!” Neron shouted. “Why do I get the pink jacket and everybody else gets to look cool?!”
“You think being forced to wear a Japanese schoolgirl outfit when I’m not even Japanese is cool?” Kelly glared.
“Well what about her?” Cya pointed at Stella. “Why does she look like a sparkly vampire from Twilight?”
“Who cares?” JueJue the pink sprite yelled. “We’ve got a big problem!”
“What problem?” Kay asked.
“This isn’t just any sector on Lyoko. It’s Carthage.”
“Yeah...” trailed Atlas. “And?”
“Isn’t there usually some kind of timer?”
As if on cue, the wall around them stopped spinning and opened up the pathway into the Carthaginian maze. A noise like an alarm sounded for a few seconds before silence took over. Everyone glared at JueJue.
“What?” she cried. “I was just stating the truth!”
Snickie let out a sigh and then led the others into the maze. They crossed the footbridge and stopped to let the wall open in front of them, jumping as each layer twisted in a different direction which created what was essentially a wonky tunnel. At the end they found themselves in a room with blue blocks (is there really any other way to describe Carthage?), a switch on the ceiling near the furthest corner, and, of course, tons of creepers.
Each person discovered their powers as they fought against the creepers, rather easily, while JueJue, the only one with wings (she is a sprite, after all), flew up to the ceiling to press the switch, which did nothing to bring aid against the creepers but did open a tiny door while the entrance they’d come from closed up.
Stella the sparklepire found the door and yelled, “Everyone, I found the exit! Follow me!”
People were quick to respond to get away from the last few creepers, the last being Cats who was able to deflect the lasers with his extensive armor. They found themselves in another room similar to where they’d been before, with more blue blocks and a few other doorways outlined by blue blocks.
“What’s with all the blue blocks?!” Cya cried.
“This is Carthage, Cya…” Snickie pointed out.
“Let’s do a headcount,” said Kelly, dissolving the daggers in her hand and counting the people. “You never know... creepers tend to make big messes.”
“Hey Kelly, you know you’re like a bada** Japanese schoolgirl with those daggers?” Neron pointed.
“Be quiet,” Kelly groaned as everyone else got into a line. She counted them, and then recounted. “Seven? Plus me, that makes eight.”
“But… weren’t there nine of us?” Atlas asked.
“Who’s missing?” asked JueJue.
“Snickie, me, Neron, Cya, Atlas, Cats, JueJue, Stella...”
“Oh my God! Kay!” Stella blurted out before dashing away back to where they came from.
Cya and Atlas caught up to her and restrained her. “Don’t go back there!” Cya cried. “She... she probably just got devirtualized, and is back at the factory with Jeremie and everyone.”
“If that were true, then why haven’t we heard Jeremie’s voice the entire time we’ve been here? Or even any of the voices of XANA’s polymorphs? Don’t you think Jeremie would have been guiding us?” JueJue groaned.
“But... that would mean...”
