Re: CL Fanfiction
I did a few stories with OCs actually, One More Game and Across the World are my OC riddled stories. I know that, for AtW at least, I made a point of using country correct names (the kid in Japan has a Japanese name, the kids in America have common American names, ect). As for OMG...I think I looked up name meanings or picked from a hat or something. I'm not really sure (in my defense, it was one of my first fics). But I do completely agree that characters shouldn't just be given a name the author thinks is cool, it needs to actually make some sense.
And Stella, I totally get the thing about having one's own writting process. I find that every one works differently in that aspect. For instance, some people can't work under deadlines at all, but when I'm crunched for time I'm able to word-spew (not always good words, but words none-the-less).

I said violate rules at need. If that's what you meant then yes, we agree.
I disagree with major OC's from the start not working.

Re: CL Fanfiction
It's not that they never work, but that a lot of young FF authors [and older ones too] aren't creating decent OCs. Instead, they make characters who are over powered, have over the op back stories, or unrealistic abilities to fit in with the original characters--or some combination of them all. It's those OCs that ruin it for the good ones out there, I feel.
Re: CL Fanfiction
Yeah. Right now I'm working on a story with a cast that's basically all OCs, but I'm afraid to continue it because of the stigma surrounding those characters...but hopefully that'll just motivate me to do better.
If anyone has recommendations for good stories they've featuring OCs I'd love to read them just so that I could have some kind of precedent.

Re: CL Fanfiction
I know of one that I read a looooong time ago, back when I first came into the CL fandom. It was written in script format, so it may have been removed by FF, but it was brilliantly done. The characters were amazing, but it was because they were realistic. Like, one of the girls was very good in PE and was all strong and stuff? But she could be kind of abrassive and hot headed, and the author didn't let her get away with it.
Also, I suggest posting a link here when you start putting the story up on FF. We could give you some feedback/reviews to help you along.

Re: CL Fanfiction
Okay! Right now it's still in the planning stages. (Read: Minder likes making the characters and plot more than the actual writing process |D)
I do have some art for one of the OCs done that I might use for the Grand Arena here, actually; do you think that'd be alright?

Re: CL Fanfiction
I would think so. Railen would be the best person to ask, but I've rp'd with story OCs before without a problem. I think as long as you fill in the character form thing properly and follow Railen's "no over powered people" rule, you'd be okay~
And a writing question to avoid off topic-ness: for anyone who's written for multiple generas, which do you think is the easiest to write for? For me it's romance. More action-y stuff is so rediculously hard.

Re: CL Fanfiction
Yea, I believe I have discussed OC's alot. 90% of the OC based stories aren't that good but I have seen and read great ones that had major OC's from the start.
Those authors cared for the tiny details that seperate the real and the unreal and successfuly managed to create real living characters.
I think suspence is one of the hardest genres. I' m gonna try my luck with it very soon.

One of my fav topics that deserve to be brought back to life. There's valuable info too.
For the authors: what is the best story you have read on FF and why did you like it?

List all the fictions you like then. The point is to find what interests the reader and makes him/her want to check that fiction again or read more from that author.

Re: CL Fanfiction
My favorites differ. XD I'll read just about anything as long as I can actually read it. I stop reading a story if there's a big wall of text with multiple characters speaking and doing things in said wall of text. I won't read, yuri though. I read some M-rated fics, but not the ones that are mainly written porn. I've written some goods one, if I do say so myself. I'll acknowledge it if I find a good author, though. Flyboy961 is a good one. Same for Vector Z, even if he hasn't updated in awhile.

Re: CL Fanfiction
Thinking back, nothing from Code Lyoko fanfiction stands out a ton (but I haven't read it in a while). I mean, there are definitely some good quality fics in the section. Code Lyoko is pretty popular (in the top fifteen in the Cartoon Section, I think) but it doesn't have the mass-fan-base in fandoms such as Naruto, Harry Potter, etc. Since they have a wider fan-base, they have some truly amazing, epic stories.
Code Lyoko does have it's stories though, no deny-ing that.
And with the genre discussion earlier: I find angst easiest to write. I've moved away from character-death and tragedy, but angst is still good. Throw in a smattering of adventure, some irony, some good old fashioned friendship, and a dash of hurt/comfort. I can get out some romance if I try hard enough.
Do you know what genre I never plan on writing for: Western. Though maybe it could be fun, you know? Western style Code Lyoko?
Hmm...

Re: CL Fanfiction
That would be interesting... XD Western theme... Xana being the bad guy with the gun that no one wants to be the guy to beat him. XD My favorite right now is this one: The Weak Leak by Tellemicus Sundance. It's really well written. X3

Re: CL Fanfiction
I've seen somebody do that with Fire Emblem before, and it was quite hilarious. Each character had Western accents too.
Although, I can imagine a CL one, with Ulrich being Sheriff in town most likely, Odd being his sidekick, Jeremie being the smart guy, Aelita or Yumi possibly being the damsel in distress (okay, I can't really imagine Yumi being in distress) and Yumi being the badass cowgirl.

Re: CL Fanfiction
I think it could be plausible: if you got the return trip working a little too well. Of course, if I were to write it, I would have to use my extensive knowledge of Western films (aka, Back to the Future, Part III- and that's about it).
I just don't think you could write a CL Western without it turning humorous, can it even be serious?
But you never know, I've seen weirder twists turn amazing.

I'm hoping it isn't CL exclusive, but tbh, and I haven't actually read any stories there in over a year, there was nothing that made me go "Woah! The second coming of J.K. Rowling!" But there were plenty of super good stories there; it's just that this fic kind of blew me away.
Midnight is basically a Dramione with the setting of what would happen if Voldemort had won the war? The details are amazing, and I honestly just don't get how the author comes up with everything – that much creativity in one person should not be allowed. >:[ It's dark of course, but there are no torture or sex scenes, 'cos otherwise I would've dropped it immediately. But be warned, it hasn't been updated in ages. It's just too good though, so I couldn't resist recommending it.
Oh! And even if you don't go for Draco x Hermione, just know that the spotlight isn't directly on them. They still hate each other after twelve chapters, if that's anything to go by.

Re: CL Fanfiction
Do know what I think would be an interesting idea for a fanfic, an great UlrichXSissi type story. I almost started one once, as a sort of sequal to All's Fair, but never got around to it. Has anyone ever read a story for them that was in character? I mean, it's not technically canon, but it has a basis in the show that you could work from.
I think it would be interesting to read.

Re: CL Fanfiction
I love pairing Sissi up with main characters because I feel that under the bratty exterior, she could be a nice person, if the right person was there to help her, because you do see deeper moments with her. But it's so much fun to play around with her head.
Re: CL Fanfiction
There are definitely moments where Sissi is nice. Like in that episode where they were stuck in the elevator and Sissi helped Ulrich with his arm. X3 I have to wonder how she got so bratty, though. Her father doesn't seem to be one to put up with it.
