Re: School
It's recommended because students tend to score higher on their second take than on their first.Snickie wrote:It's not required, but it's recommended.
I'm getting a ton of emails from the CollegeBoard all like, "So now that you know what the SAT's like, here's how to score better the second time.". And I'm all like, "I liked my first score! Statistically I'm probably going to go down in score if I retake it. Leave me alone, CollegeBoard!"
Re: School
I used to do SATs before I started year 7 ahhh I wish tests were still that easy ...I'm assuming SATs are more important to you guys.
Re: School
I gotta do SATs this year. Taking these tests suck, cause it's so hard to find a place where we can take it. and the town school's have been ignoring our calls to try and find a place to take them.
grr.
grr.

Re: School
@Kay; the SAT is a test that you take at the end of your junior year/senior year and colleges factor in the score you get during your admissions process. There's also the ACT, which isn't very common in the Northeast (at least I think?), but my teacher said that in the Midwest that's what they use.
I'm pretty worried about the PSAT because it's a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship, and I keep on having trouble with some specific things. Technically this is good, but I'm stuck on how to improve. For the math section, I always get those problems like "y is an integer, if blablabla, what is x?" mixed up.

Re: School
I took SATs in elementary school before I switched to public school and FCAT (which sucks, btw, I'm so glad I'm done with them). There, SATs meant "Standard Achievement Test" or something like that. But they tested a whole bunch of subjects and gave a specific score from kindergarten to post-high school. I'm not entirely sure how they scored it, but I got a lot of PHSes.
In high school/college, SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test and the normal test only tests reading, writing, and math. There are also the SAT subject tests, but I haven't taken any of those yet.

Re: School
just to clarify, Kay, the high school/college ones are generally what people refer to when people talk about SATs.
I think I want to take a subject test if only because it seems less rigorous than the AP, and I'm kind of terrified of the Spanish AP (are you taking it this year? because you mentioned you speak Spanish, I swear)

Re: School
I almost took that class, Cya. But because where I'm at, you only need 3 histories. So it was purely optional, but I opted out of it because of everything else I had going on.
Re: School
I see. cause a friend of mine had taken it, and said it was super hard. I'm glad I took world history instead. that was unrealistically easy

Re: School
World history here is the 9th grade history, so yeah lol. Ohhhhh them good ole days. Lol. xD
Re: School
I couldn't take AP Euro because it conflicts with my other classes.
I took APWH. I didn't like it. And the test is ridiculous because it's such a broad subject. Supposedly the DBQ (or maybe it was the CCOT) was on the Asian dynasties last year, which I remember almost nothing about. I took it two years ago.

Re: School
the DBQ I had asked the following:
How did the sport of cricket influence social structure in India?
I stared at it for a full minute. I'm sorry, but I didn't study that.

Re: School
Neither did I. We just went over the basics in the World History of what happened and stuff.
Re: School
See what I mean? XD. I wrote my DBQ, wrote three paragraphs for my C/C, wrote an opening paragraph on the CCOT, and drew pictures on the rest of my exam booklet since the lunch bells were ringing and my poor deep-fried brain simply could not concentrate with all that by then.
Re: School
You weren't in AP World History, were you, Dani.
Funny thing is I still managed to score a 3 even with my brainfartiness.

Nah, just regular World History. xD
I still question how I got into Pre Calculus honors though.... -.- lol

I'm sorry but wth. I've never taking WH, but I thought the DBQ would be about trade or cultures or I don't know...not about India and cricket?! Did you end up BSing the answer or something like that?
And nah, I haven't taken APEH, but I feel like you would know that because I had this kelly!crisis sometime ago where I was freaking out about the AP histories and blabbing on and on about them. But I really want to take it! I just don't have enough time.

Re: School
well, it was the document based question. So they give you documents, and you have to write about the topic based on the documents.
but seriously. I had to reread it a few times, just to make sure I knew what they were talking about,

Re: School
What did you end up getting on the exam?
And that's good! To this day, and this probably isn't a good thing, but I have still no idea what cricket is. Like, I know it's a sport, but it's even less popular than baseball and that's saying something (I kid, I kid...I just have a hatred of all things baseball-related).

Re: School
4
so it was all good in the end. Actually, I was really surprised. The 'class' I took for the AP world history wasn't really a class, and about a third of the classes we didn't even touch on world history XD
but it was fun.
I don't have any idea of the rules of cricket. never have

Re: School
I took APWH, I hated it. APUSH was way frakking better. I had a superb teacher, and I got a 4.
Re: School
I had a terrible APWH 'teacher'.
I had to keep threatening to poison him if he didn't grade my essays.
