Papers, papers, papers; it always comes down to this. She can’t leave. And he gets on the plane.

Jeremie tried his best on the forgeries (he didn’t, really, he’s done this so many times it should be easy) but here she is without a passport and he’s getting on the plane for America. And here she is, Aelita, standing alone in an airport without a ticket and without a past.

Papers.

Her heart aches with betrayal and her eyes sting, a pretty young woman in an airport alone watching her fiancé leave for a business trip. She feels unspeakably abandoned.

Prompt: Aelita's Future

Cold November wind brushes Aelita's gray hair as she sits on a bench in front of a granite tombstone. A bunch of chrysants lies and a couple of lights flicker around it.
Her hunched body reflects in a smooth surface under the inscription. Empty space that waits for her name. Anxiety fills Aelita's heart as that thought crosses her mind.
Suddenly, a blow starts a rain of leaves around her. Aelita looks up and a smile appears on her wrinkled face as she sees the clear blue sky. Then, her giggle adds up to the rustling sounds of empty cemetery.

Prompt: Halloween

"It's okay, right?" William cooed, throwing a white sheet over Manta and positioning the little eyeholes on its head just so. Manta stiffly bleated when William clambered onto its back, the sheet bunching up under his clearly labeled patellas. Williams sat back and drummed his fingertips—er, distal phalanges—on the very inaccurate representation of his respective femurs. He glanced down, brow furrowed.

"Man, where are they? I'm starving. Look, you can see my ribs."

"Come on, Manta, don't you find my jokes... humerus?"

Make up prompt: Aelita's Future
The logical choice was for her to do something with computers. The reasoing was obvious enough. Her friends also suggested being a doctor, she had the smarts and she would help others, so it seemed like the second most logical choice.

However, she isn't really sure what she wants to do, so she takes an acting class and falls in love with it. She stays up late to practice and goes to audition after audition and though, at first, it is completely heartbreaking and soul-consuming, she can't imagine her life without it.

Plus, she gets to keep her pink hair.

Prompt: Jeremy's Future
Jeremy Belpois had attended a prestigious university, graduated early, and was still first in his class. By the time he was twenty-three, he was traveling around the world for his job. By twenty-six he had gone solo, had five patents, and was working on more.

He became a billionaire by age thirty and revolutionized technology, allowing for our lives to be simpler and more efficient.

Yet, he never forgot his routes. He is still in contact with his friends (who are also very successful in their particular fields) and plans on sending his future children to his old high school.

They weren't as brave when they were young.

Aelita had been afraid of vampires that she knew would come in through her window, Ulrich of the boogieman underneath his bed, Odd could swear he could hear the screams of ghosts, and Yumi had been absolutely petrified just thinking of zombies.

They swear they got over their fears. But Ulrich still checks underneath his bed, Aelita never sleeps with her windows open, Odd can't sleep with strange noises, and Yumi goes pale whenever zombies are mentioned.

On Halloween, they jump at the drop of a pin, and Sissi loves it.

Returnings

The scanner doors hissed, letting off smoke as they slid open seconds before the doors on the scanner to the left. Both boys, blond and brunet, staggered from their respective scanners and stared together at the third scanner. The scanner who’s doors wouldn’t open to reveal their raven haired friend. She wouldn’t step through those scanner doors today, or tomorrow, or ever again. She would never return as the boys had returned from the other world called Lyoko. She would never return because she had slipped from their grasp and fallen into the Digital Sea. Never again to return home.

The world was silent as Ulrich looked around. There was no wind to speak of, no movement, and no sounds.

“Was it always this quiet?” he whispered as he began walking. He was absolutely alone, and he knew it. But his body was on guard; his neck tingling. He couldn’t get rid of his uneasy sense. It was like a graveyard here, and in a way, it was.

“No sign of anything,” he said. “Bring me back.”

“Okay,” Aelita said from the supercomputer.

For years, he had dreamed of returning to Lyoko. Now he didn’t.

It had lost its magic.

Alita’s POV:

This couldn’t be happening.

I ran along a very familiar rote. I hadn’t had to go this way for months, & I could tell I was a little bit out of shape. I was glad I still knew the way after all this time.

This wasn’t supposed to be happening.

We thought this was over. We thought we would never have to worry about this again. My father gave up everything so we wouldn’t have to worry about this again. But it was suddenly clear that he sacrificed himself for nothing.

The worst had happened.

XANA was alive.

I may be evil but I am a necessary evil. Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it. I have been waiting for so long. Unlike insignificant humans, I am more resilient and they know it. They know they are inferior, fragile, weak and vulnerable. They claim they are good yet they kill, lie, cheat and corrupt. They declare that they own their destiny. They were destined to shut me down and I was destined to return.

And so he sat in front of his desk, pen between his teeth and hands clawing frustrated in his Brown hair. He had been so sure that this time he would succeed. That this time, he would finally get an A+ and proudly brag as he receives his reward for the deal. But no, of course the teacher had to ruin everything. He had studied the complete French book with all of its words and auxiliaries. There was just one word that the book failed to explain, and the teacher had to ask. What in the world did “returnings” mean??

The pinkette looked up surprised to see Odd looking at her as if puzzled. She smiled at him and touched her heart. “Because I’ve always known what a friend is, Odd.”
“Oh?”
“Yes. It’s the person who calms me after a nightmare; it’s the person who helps me face my fears; it’s the people who I love.” The two grew quiet until Aelita sighed. “And Odd?”
“Yeah?”
“You’ll always be my friend.”
Odd smiled and hugged her close. “Thanks Aelita. You’ll always be my friend too.”

He thought about what the topic meant to him. It meant people that would always stay by your side during the tough times… It meant people that were extended family. It meant that no matter what you’d never drift apart, even if you lived far from each other. Friends mean the world to anyone person, and Jeremie’s friends were the best anyone could ask for. They’d done so much, but in the end they would always and forever be friends. Robots couldn’t even compare to a true friend. Friendship was the most precious thing anyone could have given the boy…

“Guys, watch out. XANA’s sending some Bloks.” Jeremy said as Ulrick, Alita, & I ran through the Ice Sector.

“Relax, Einstein.” I said. “I feel full of energy!”

“You should, after sleeping through Ms. Hertz’s class.” Ulrick said. “Good luck with that test tomorrow!”

“There’s a test?” I was doomed.

“Don’t worry, Od. I took plenty of notes if you want some help studying.” Alita said.

“You’re a life saver, Princess.”

“That’s what friends are for, right?” she asked.

I pulled her back from the laser that would have hit her & destroyed the Blok.

“Exactly.” I said.

I had to do some editing, but, it still turned out the way I'd intended it to.

Friendship was always the best thing that had come from lyoko; the deepening of their own relationships and the bringing of a new friend. They’d all been through so much to get to where they are now; the attacks, the fighting, the near death experiences, but, instead of creating a fear of never returning to earth…Lyoko and even XANA had brought them closer together than either could imagine. The loner, the joker, the nerd, the sports
hero and a girl who knew no more than virtual reality, strange, but, a group
of friends bound by the protection of two worlds.

This is a little rough, but I kind of like it. ^_^

(Yumi's POV) I seem to be using her a lot for my drabbles just because I like that "older" point of view in such a short passage. ^^

It was friendship, but it also seemed to be something a little more. The relationship between Jeremie and Aelita had always confused us, but it never ceased to amuse and amaze us. Their ever-changing, always progressing friendship and love wove in and out of the locks of time, in between the trials and claws of deceit, always managing to pull through untouched, even when our little "gang" went through its rough patches.

I always, personally, loved to watch their relationship grow and blossom into something more beautiful each day. To this day, I see that their friendship will outlast time.

She looks through her father’s old yearbook for answers.

She see pictures of him (a nerd), with a jock, an oddball, and an outsider. Later, a punk (or so it seems) comes and even later, a cool guy and popular girl join.

“We made it work,” her father says from the doorway. “We lost our glue, but we didn’t fall apart.”

She doesn’t mention that she has never seen any of these people. She doesn’t get answers the answers she was looking for.

She still doesn’t know why her father looks wistfully at fairies and geishas and ninjas and cats.

Herve sighed as he crossed Kadic’s gate for the first time in six years. Class reunion should be exciting, but he felt he became that acne-covered, bashful kid again.
He felt his hand being squeezed. His girlfiriend Taelia smiled at him, reminding that things have changed since junior high. Herve felt reassured.
As the couple arrived at the inner yard, they seeked familiar faces. Then, in the distance, he saw her, in unbelievably high heels, with her father by her side. She looked up and confronted him. Her face gave away confusion and
surprise.
Herve could pronounce his return successful.

"Hey Odd, are you okay?" Yumi asked, looking down at him.

"You took a pretty big fall there," Ulrich said.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," Odd grumbled as he reached for their outstretched hands. They pulled him up and Yumi brushed some dust off of his shoulder.

However, as soon as they let go, he found his legs giving out and himself falling towards the ground for the second time that day. Luckily, his pals grabbed him before he hit the ground.

"I don't think that was your brightest idea," Yumi reflected.

Odd grimaced in pain. "It looks easier in movies."

After the boy next door wins first prize in the science fair, the number one ranked gymnast of just yesterday runs over to him and kisses him smack dab on the lips in a moment of pure audacity. Shock, surprise, and delight all rolled into one, Kadic High’s Golden Couple have just had their whole kiss in front of an unsuspecting audience. Hello, cliché.

They separate, just an inch, and she whispers against his lips, “I love you,”

And just like in the movies, he whispers against her soft-smelling hair, in true Disney happy ending fashion, “I love you too,”

“Got the tickets for the movie?” Aelita questioned Odd.
“Yup!” Odd smiled, pulling the two tickets out of his pocket.
“Great. Pass me one, I’ll give it to Yumi. The other, pass to Ulrich.”
“Let’s have a bet. 10 bucks Ulrich and Yumi still won’t be a couple.” Odd grinned, confident of his bet.
“You’re on! 10 bucks they will, then.” Aelita smirked.

As Aelita and Odd watched from behind some bushes, they saw Yumi and Ulrich walking out of the cinema, hand in hand.
“I’m glad that we’re a couple now,” Ulrich said, smiling.

“Ten bucks, Odd.”
“Not fair!”

Catch-up: Halloween

Creeping around the miserable things they called houses, I found the one I was looking for.
I went in and found a middle-aged lady sitting there alone. Perfect.
I entered her body, blocking her windpipe. Suffocation.
Let her die, slowly.
She is dying soon.
Snap! There, I broke her neck.
And the little lady is dead.
“William! Take her body to Kadic and hang her body somewhere in full view of everyone.”
XANA watched, as Sasha gasped at the sight of her mother’s body swinging in the middle of the corridor.
“Happy Halloween, dear Sasha.”
And I return to Lyoko.

Thirteen:
Humans say that the number 13 is unlucky. Why is that so, I may not know. Humans are only humans, believing in magic and myths instead of facts and truth. Maybe this is why humans have prepared their own doom.
Numbers and myths about them are never true, why believe them?
Why can’t humans just accept the number thirteen as another number, like how they can treat the other numbers?
Wards without the number thirteen, the missing level thirteen in lifts and the units of human houses.
Maybe they have been too corrupted?
I might as well leave them alone.

Yumi was walking to the cafeteria with Ulrich. The two of them got their lunch and headed to the "gang's" table and started to eat lunch. It's been a few months since Xana's defeat.

Odd looked up at the two," how are the two lovebirds doing today? Finally ready to admit your feelings?"

"ODD!" Yumi shouted standing up, she then shoved her lunch in his face and turned to the rest of the students," everyone who hits Odd with some food gets five bucks later!" She yelled and walked to the door, laughing. Odd however was running for his scrawny life.

Everything changed.

Just a second ago, they had been winning. Not the battle, but the war. Everything would have been okay.

Would have.

Before any of them could even realize it, the tides had turned. More monsters had come, they had grown weaker, and one of them had been lost. Forever.

And nothing will ever be alright again. How do you look at the empty spot where a comrade, a teammate, a friend used to sit and say that anything is ever okay?

And then sometimes, you wake up. And you realize that it was all a dream.

Everything changed.

#18: In the Blink of an Eye

They celebrate XANA's defeat with drinks in the moonlight.

Aelita feels lighter than air, relaxing on the grass, watching William laugh at Odd's jokes. Then his eye catches hers. She frowns; for the briefest moment there is a three-ringed three-pointed target where William's pupil should have been. William blinks, turns, and it must have been a trick of the light because then it is gone.

Yet in the darkest part of William's consciousness lurks a smoke-grey spectre. It has grown good at hiding; from multi-agent programmes, from the Lyoko warriors themselves.

XANA's time will come again. For now, it waits.

The blink of an eye. That was all it took.

Then, she was gone.

The Digital Sea was not a kind place to creatures of flesh and blood. Yumi, a friend, companion, and warrior, vanished, with no hope of recovery.

No way, but for one. A onetime use, to either save a friend, or save the world. What a choice to make for one so young. Some might even say love prevailed, and an oversized enter key slammed down.

Deep in the recesses of a frame of glass and code, an imprisoned good wept, and a evil god laughed viciously...

Prompt: Lost
Begin Date: March 30
End Date: April 6
Special Details: this is kinda sad, but it gets better.

Ever since that day, they were lost. Xana was gone, and without his presence to push them together, they had drifted apart.

Ulrich had finally succeeded in pushing Yumi away, and Jeremie had withdrawn, and Aelita left him for greener pastures. Bonds had been broken, but new bonds had also been forged.

They still had each other. Two sets of lovers, their own loves gone, found solace in the arms of their opposite.

Maybe eventually they would reconcile as friends, but in the future.

So both together and apart, two sets of friends held each other, thinking of better times.

"I'm-"

Lips on lips then hands on shoulders; pushing, pushing him away.

"-Sorry."

"I thought..."

He shook his head, wouldn't meet the other's eyes.

"Oh." Then, "this won't change things, will it?"

"We'll always be friends."

But the air between them was thick with the memory of that kiss; it lay beneath the surface of every battle they fought together, every word exchanged. And Ulrich couldn't stand being suffocated beneath that lovesick gaze, not by his best friend.

He edged slowly away until the space between their beds became a hundred miles.

Whatever they had had before, it was lost.
