January Story Challenge: Back to the Future

Just kidding. This has nothing to do with that 1985-film. However, it does have a lot to do with the future! (I bet you're shocked, huh) Basically, the challenge is to write a fic with your favourite — or maybe even your not-so-favourite, whichever floats your boat — CL characters. To be clear, I'm thinking around any time after high school, so we don't stay in the same setting. I mean, yes, their last year of high school/secondary school would be the future, but the point is to get creative and envision what their lives will be like further down the timeline.

If you need help getting started, some but not all ideas are: weddings, jobs, college/university, deaths, the second/third/fourth generation — if you do decide on writing about the future generation, please include at least one or two of the original gang in it and don't focus it solely on the new generation

I'll be judging on creativity and characterisation. Unlike other challenges, you don't really need a plot, so you can write a fluffy vignette of future!Jerlita, but a plot can never hurt. Correct spelling and grammar are also greatly appreciated, but if you have a good story, then that speaks for itself. First place gets 2 CPs, and second place gets 1 CP. ALSO! Soul said she's willing to design a banner for the first and second prize winners. And Soul's a really good artist. So if there were ever a time to get started on a story you've been madly plotting...

-no longer than 5,000 words; no less than 500 words; I'm flexible and consider these general guidelines, so if you're a little over or under, that's fine by me
-one-shots, multi-chapters (with a combined total of around 5,000 words)...it's all good
-follow FFN's rules
-link your story; if you need help with linking, post in this thread/talk to me
-no M-rated fics; and since swearing is allowed in T-rated fics, just drop a warning if there's swearing in yours, please (it won't stop me from reading it, but it's useful for other members)

It would be fantastic if you could get it done by the end of January. And when I say fantastic, well, I mean that's when it should be done and linked here barring exceptional circumstances in which the world ends and no one was prepared for it because the Mayans just didn't feel like warning us. These are normally one-month challenges, but the holiday season and winter break are upon us, so here's an extra week. Good luck!

And like previous challenges, feel free to post questions in here or PM me. This is meant to be a casual kind of thing, just to get writing and have fun with the community. So if you're hesitant about 'entering' your writing, just remember that this is a challenge for everyone, hence the title.

Jelly has convinced me to try doing this ;D I don't usually do challenges and I'm a little apprehensive (so I'm really glad this one is pretty casual (: less stress!), but I'll definitely try!

Sorry for the late replies (you know how you tell yourself you'll reply later and then later ends up not being until your friend texts you ten times...yeah, this is kind of like that, though no one had to text me to come post here ). I'm really excited to see what you guys come up with! As I said, I love future fics, and this is an awesome way for me to sneakily get new material.

@Snickie; aww, maybe you can host the next one? I've always wanted to host a story challenge, and I figured that now that I was on trial, maybe I should attempt one. @Kay; Aaah, thank you Soul then for getting you to join. And DON'T BE APPREHENSIVE. It's just all in fun, and we usually talk about what we're doing, our progress, and stuff like that (though I've been doing a terrible job at keeping up in this thread). It's like a communityfest of "oh gosh I don't think I have time, it's not coming out how I wanted it, I tried my best but I don't know", because that's just how writers are. I'm glad you're trying this!!

I swear I wrote somewhere that the deadline was the end of January, but I'm willing to extend it if need be?? This is the first challenge we've had in a while, so I'm trying to keep it flexible so we can get a good amount of participants and get the ball rolling again.
