Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Okay, I lied. This will be back up tomorrow evening (Sat morning at the latest). I'm super sorry, this has just been a seriously crazy week for me (you know, a ton of tests, a ton of projects, a ton of other things that come up). However, it will come back with even more prompts and a much easier system of recieving said prompts, to make this easier for all parties involved.
Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
SHADOWSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Where is the prompts and stuff!?!?!
It's Saturday morning already

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Alita’s POV:
It’s amazing how quickly you can get lost when you’re being chased by strange monsters.
One minute, I’m at the edge of the Forest Sector, getting chased by Hornets & wishing desperately for a way out…Next thing I know, I’m in this weird sector where everything is blue & XANA’s monsters are still chasing me. I’ve never even seen these creatures before. All I know is that they seem to be stronger than the others my friends & I have seen.
My only choice was to keep running. I had to trust my instincts to guide me, because there was only one thing I knew for sure…
I was lost.
---
Jim’s POV:
It was midnight, according to my alarm clock. It was one of those nights where I just couldn’t get to sleep…
It didn’t happen often, but there were some nights when all I was able to think about was my past…both the good times & the bad. I’ve seen so much, & done so many incredible things…It made my life here seem pretty…boring.
Not that I hated my life now. I loved being a teacher, & getting to help kids discover who they were. An old friend of mine had shown me how easy it was to make a difference, & I liked to think that I meant something to these kids…but there were still some nights that I would swear I heard the TARDIS…
Wait a minute. Did I really just hear that…? I grabbed my robe & ran outside.
Maybe this time, it wouldn’t be a dream…

…I probably shouldn’t watch Doctor Who & then work on my writing…
Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Hey, random question: do the drabbles have to be dark? I know the prompts are, but you never mentioned anything about the drabbles being dark (though obviously what with all the dark prompts people will write dark drabbles ) BUT I'M FEELIN' REBELLIOUS so I think I'll write some Jerlita.
22: Shriek
There's someone in the hall.Shhh.
Click. Click.
The sound of slippers gliding across the floor, someone walking, perhaps trying to tiptoe slowly.
Silence.
Quick and shallow breathing.
Pink hair quivering.
New sweat beading over old.
Thoughts racing with remnants of the nightmare.
Terror.
Shhh.
Closer.
Thoughts of too many horror movies, courtesy of Odd.
Eyes shutting. Heart beating.
Shhh.
Just another late night bathroom trip for one of the girls.
Is it?
Right outside the door.
Hands curling.
One around a doll, one around the knife under her pillow.
She doesn't like it, but it is necessary.
Doorknob turning.
Thoughts of this ridiculousness.
Why is she afraid?
Nightmare flashes.
Breath hitching.
Heart speeding. Body tensing. Terror coursing.
A sliver of light falls upon her.
Fighting not to pant. Not to scream.
Stillness.
Knife gripped.
Silence.
She can hear them breathing.
Sound drowned out by her heartbeat.
Silence.
What are they waiting for?
Nearly dizzy from controlling her breathing.
Unbearable silence. Then—
"Aelita?"
The gentle whisper sends the girl whirling, knife in hand.
The movement sends the boy jumping backwards.
Startled glances. Knife clattering to the floor. Sheepish apology.
Relief.
"Jeremy. I've been on edge all night, and I had a nightmare earlier…"
Gentle reassuring.
Light glinting off of eyes.
Suspicious blackness replacing blue.
Relief overpowering suspicion.
Door sliding closed.
Hand behind back.
Eyes flashing black. A familiar symbol.
Knife glinting in the moonlight. Not hers.
Horrified realization.
The shriek is loud enough for the whole dorm to hear.
I'll write Jerlita..... after I kill Aelita off. (cause that totally makes more sense)

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
(What the hell? VENA WHY?!!)
Taking 27
17. Beast
Stalking was a good way to describe how it moved. Prowling was a close second. Slithering, a close runner up.
Regardless of how it moved, it was out of place. It was a core of inky black amidst fields of starlight. Tonight, on this night of nights, it was free to hunt. Each day, it had grown stronger, a dome of white light washing over it. It was old. It had witnessed many wars, and personal battles as well. It had allowed itself to be trapped for a time, but now, on the Eve of All Hallows', it had freed itself from clinging machinery, returning to a more primal form. It had been far too long, and it had become a creature of hunger. It could feel the souls of old adversaries. The wizard still lived, or a descendant. He was alone, for the essence of his companion was almost non existent.
Wards of progress had held it bound beneath the city, but now it was free to find the souls of a new generation. Judging by the smell on the breeze, the souls of the long dead lingered as well, and much reduced.
The beast smiled, drawing itself up, truly human form forever lost to it. Where time had weakened its bonds, and robbed his foes of strength, it had also granted him great strengths. The last scion of the wizard would perish on this night of nights, and once more, the world would plunge into darkness. Silvery teeth spread in a rictus grin, and the newborn Darkness set up a howl to wake the souls of the dead. They would know he was coming, and they would run.
The beast was hunting.

Doing 20,
27. Capture
He was armed. A brief stop at the Catholic Church had equipped him well. Holy Water, and a Crucifix. From the woods around Kadic, Rowan, Wolfsbane. From his room, the ornamental silver knife, slightly tarnished. His gloves, protection against the chill, had cold iron sewed into the knuckles. It was Halloween, and the supernatural was out and about. Research had showed a glade due south of Kadic, near the old sewer entrance. His maps showed a convergence of Ley Lines. Research during the day had shown a change in the tree type, from oak to ash and yew. Given his newfound belief in the supernatural, Jeremie had no doubt that this was one of the most magical places in France.
As he walked, Jeremie was most surprised at the lack of natural noise. His footsteps were dull. The fog from his breath was hanging in the air, adding to the low visibility. Even though he had walked it before, the path seemed to dance in front of him, and after a few wrong turns, he was hopelessly caught in the shifting labyrinth of darkness. Shifting shadows swirled, and only his equipment, lit with a pale glow, pushed them back.
He was caught, but a rat in a trap can be more ferocious than any creature on earth.

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Why did I kill Aelita, or why am I writing Jerlita fluff? (the latter's answer should be obvious )
9, Fright.
"C'mon, it's not even scary." This voice was insistent.
"I don't care. It's a waste of my time." This voice was impatient.
"You don't know that. Please come with us." This voice was pleading.
"I don't know..." Impatience turned to hesitance.
"Please?" Pleading became stronger.
There was a pause.
"Fine." Impatience turned to grudging.
"Thank you!" Pleading turned to happy.
Is it turned out, Odd was right. The movie--Fright something or other--wasn't scary at all. Yumi and Ulrich were off the couch in less than fifteen minutes, doing their best to copy the moves from the movie that were a 'ten year-old's warm-up', in as Yumi put it. Jeremy and Aelita constantly whispered to each other about the movie's poor effects and cheesy music, each respectively claiming they could create a better soundtrack or special affects.
As Aelita complained about how the woman was always the one to be comforted the man, she started to smile, forming an idea. She scooted closer to Jeremy, who was half listening to the movie and half staring off into space, probably thinking about something completely unrelated. However, his attention immediately snapped to Aelita when she nestled her head in the crook of his neck.
"What... are you...?"
"We are watching a horror movie. Let's just say that I'm 'scared'," she murmured back to him, stifling a giggle and threading her fingers through his. Even in the blue glow of the television, Jeremy's blush was clear.
"Um... yeah."
Glancing sideways, Aelita found Yumi looking at her with jealousy. Her expression seemed to imply that she wished the same thing were happening with Ulrich.
Aelita could only grin.
YAY Jerlita fluff <3
I'm goin' to 5.

I am so behind on this.
I might have some spare time this weekend.
I might have some spare time this weekend.
Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Bump.
Here are my first two entries.
Here are my first two entries.
- Lost:
- "The countdown's begun."
Jérémie's statement set the four Lyoko warriors on-site into action to navigate the blue chamber before them. The goal: to press the key before time stopped and the room changed.
It would have been much easier today had the core zone not been a huge gigantic labyrinth. Nonetheless, they had to try.
"Ten seconds remaining!"
Still no key in sight.
"Five! Four! Three!"
Is that it over there?
"Two!"
Run, Ulrich, run!
"One!"
Can Odd hit it with his arrows from here?
"Zero!"
It's too late. The blue blocks shift, separating the kids.
"Jérémie, we're kinda lost."
- Midnight:
- Aelita was the first to come out of the scanner, exhausted from running away from an army of creepers that had randomly materialized in her part of the maze. Immediately she sat down against the wall of the computer lab and fell asleep.
Yumi was next. She was crushed by block traps that XANA had planted in her part of the maze. She was sure there was a key she was supposed to trigger, but it was probably also hidden.
"Wow, it's already midnight!" Yumi exclaimed. "How long have we been here?"
"Four hours," Jérémie yawned.
"Look, I know how important this mission is to you and Aelita, but I absolutely must get home. I'm sorry. Good night!" Yumi shut herself inside the elevator, and Jérémie heard its rumble diminish in volume as on his screen, he saw Odd's tail accidentally trigger a hidden mechanism.
"Hey! Who turned all the lights out!" came Ulrich's voice, clearly irritated. "I can't see anything!"
"What happened?" Jérémie asked both of them, turning on sound relay (A|N: which is essentially the same thing as the conference call setting, but I doubt that's the term the LWs would've used, and I was too lazy to come up with something else xD).
"The lights went out, and it's dark," said Odd. "Not a problem, of course."
"Easy for you to say, kitty," Ulrich grumbled.
"Okay guys, keep calm," Jérémie ordered. "Keep moving, but be careful. Not too fast, and be ready to defend yourself at all times."
"Look at the guy who ran screaming like a girl from a kankrelat in the forest sector telling us how to survive in the Cortex," Ulrich grumbled again.
"Hey, do you want me to help you out of this maze or not?" snapped Jérémie.
"We do, Jérémie, but it's just so frustrating with Odd being annoying and you snapping at us."
"I didn't say anything!" Odd protested.
"Can we argue later? Find the wall to your left and follow it. Shuffle your feet in case XANA decides to try pulling the floor out from under you," Jérémie instructed.
A few minutes of silence passed, and then in the Cortex, Ulrich began to hear a faint crackling sound. He quickly unsheathed his sabers and spun around to see a flash of white light and then nothing, at the exact same moment that Jérémie's yell of "Ulrich! Look out behind you!" came too late. Ulrich's card disappeared from the screen, and from somewhere onsite came the distorted laughter of a ninja.
"You okay, Ulrich?" Jérémie inquired via intercom as the brown-haired boy collapsed in the scanner.
"Yeah, just great..." he grunted.
"Odd, it's up to you now. Ulrich's down," he told Odd.
"No problem!" Odd replied confidently as the lights suddenly came back on and he began to navigate normally again.
"Where'd Yumi go?" came Ulrich's voice from where he was climbing the ladder back into the supercomputer room.
"Home. It's past midnight, you know," the bespectacled blond boy answered.
"It is?"
"Mmhm."
"And she's out there by herself?!" Worry seemed to rise tangibly in the young German's boy's voice.
"She probably hasn't made it yet, if you want to go—"
Ulrich was gone before Jérémie could even finish his sentence.
"Hey, Jérémie?"
"Yes, Odd?"
"I think I'm out."

- Spoiler:
Her eyes stared at them as the five ran through Carthage.
She wanted to reach out, to touch them, to tell them she was here.
She wanted to tell them that X.A.N.A.’s virus had had bound her soul to Lyoko.
That she was here, watching them.
She wanted to warn them about the monsters around the corner.
But all she could do was watch.
She was trapped, silent.
She watched the brown haired boy, her Ulrich, run a monster through with a sword.
She saw Odd try and make a joke, though the mood of the team was too low for anyone to even smile.
She saw Aelita run toward the tower.
X.A.N.A.’s attacks had become more and more dire.
It was all the Lyoko Warriors could do just to stop him, rather less do so before anyone died…
This counted for Yumi.
Her spirit was now bound to Lyoko.
She wanted to help them.
But all she could do was watch.
She was trapped, powerless.
She watched her replacement.
William, always so cocky, always so sure of himself…
Now he was just the one who replaced their Yumi.
And however much he tried to prove himself as a permanent member, he felt her loss strongly too.
She wanted to tell him to do his best.
That what the best thing he could do to honor her was to do his best.
But all she could do was watch.
She was trapped, helpless.
And time passed.
And X.A.N.A. was not defeated.
And they tried their best, their veryveryvery best…
But despite all their efforts, William was only the first in a line of replacements.
Years had passed.
No members of the original Lyoko Warriors were alive anymore.
None were here anymore.
Except Yumi.
Yumi, who could only watch.
Yumi who was trapped.
Silent, powerless, helpless.
Eternal.

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Sissy’s POV:
I smiled when I heard the knock at my door. A few nights ago, I discovered a ticket to the Halloween dance had been slipped under my door, with a note saying to be ready by eight…
I took a deep breath & opened the door...& saw something very strange.
“Hello?” I asked uncertainly.
“Hi, Sissy! Ready to go to the dance?” he said. For some reason, he had a paper bag over his head & a bunch of bags sticking randomly to his shirt & pants.
“What are you supposed to be?” I asked.
“I’m a bag boy!” he said, sounding prod of himself. “You know, like the guys at the grocery store that bag your stuff after it gets checked out?”
“Oh, right.” I said. Suddenly, this mystery date seemed a lot less romantic. “Did Od put you up to this?”
“No, he didn’t. Why do you ask?”
“Just seems like something he would do.”
“Well, it is a costume party…”
“I know that!” I said. “I’m a ghost.” I tugged at the hem of my lacy white mini dress. “A very fashionable, pretty ghost.”
“Yes, you are.” he agreed. “Shall we go, then?”
“…I don’t think so.” I said. “It’s just that, as the principal’s daughter, I set the trends for what’s cool & what isn’t. I can’t really show up at the dance with somebody who looked like they just crawled out of the dumpster. Only a nerd would wear that kind of costume…”
“Oh…I get it…” He lifted the bag off of his head…It was Brandon Winters!
Brandon Winters was the hottest guy in our grade (after Ulrick, of course). All the girls wanted him to notice them, & he had asked me to the dance! Me!!!
“You care way too much about your appearance, don’t you?” he asked. “Maybe that can change.”
My entire body suddenly felt strange. I don’t know how to describe it, but when I looked at myself, I screamed.
“Come back!” I yelled. Brandon was already halfway down the hall way. “You have to fix this!”
“Only you can fix it.” he said. “Find somebody who can love you for what’s inside.”
I slammed the door, threw myself on the bed, & cried.
Who could ever love a beast?

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Silence
And I'll take 22!
- Spoiler:
- William stood on Lyoko.
He stared ahead, glancing around, waiting for something to move.
He whipped around, hearing what sounded like footsteps, but
it was only a pebble being blown by the air of the dry desert sector.
“No,” he whispered. “No,
I promised I’d come back. I promised I’d
save you. Please, you have to still be
here!”
But he was met with a deafening silence. The noise of Lyoko that he had become used
to, the creatures moving back and forth on their own free will, carrying out
conversations, was all gone.
The Lyoko Warriors had never thought to consider that the ‘monsters’
that they so mercilessly destroyed might not be the ‘monsters’ that they seemed
to be.
Maybe they were people.
People trapped on Lyoko for years.
Forced into monstrous forms. Only
able to communicate via the thing that held them there. Xana’s control, not simply an oppressive
control, but also a communication network.
Because unlike when Xana controlled you on Earth, having an
actual part of Xana in you allowed him entire control over you. Except for one thing.
Complete control, the like of which was on William, did not control your mind. You could think, you could watch, as if
watching a movie. With no ability to
stop yourself.
And all of Xana’s ‘minions’ had a sort of hive mind. They could communicate with each other,
mentally. And that’s when William
learned that the ‘monsters’ were not
just programs.
Not by a long shot.
Aelita and Franz Hopper had not been the first ones in Lyoko.
No, many many many people had
gone in before. But Xana had gotten to
them. And put them in the forms of these
monsters. And hijacked their forms to
fight for him.
And every time one of them died, it was permanent.
But when the Lyoko Warriors left Lyoko. When Xana left them alone, to do what they
wanted, things almost seemed normal.
Sure, some people rolled, some flew. Some were square, some were round. But they were all people. And they always found ways to pass the
time. They got to know each other. They had become friends and family.
But then a tower would be activated, and they’d be brought
to a holding cell. And it was a
terrifying moment. Because if you were
chosen to go out and fight, you would either be killed or take out a Lyoko Warrior. And both were horrible, because even if you did survive, it was by taking out
someone who was protecting the Earth.
And every shot you fired that made contact was putting the world in even
more danger.
It was a nightmarish existence,
but when the fighting went away, life went on.
Now it was quiet.
Xana had been defeated.
The world was silent.
And as William stared at the empty desert, he felt like he
had failed them.
Because they were destroyed when Xana was.
And now Lyoko was silent.
William’s life had become silent.
After living so long in a world always full of the thoughts
of others, he had gotten used to it.
And now it was all overcome in silence.
William could never tell the Lyoko Warriors.
Their lives had already been wrought with pain and
suffering.
To tell them that they were now responsible for the deaths
of thousands…
To tell them that every time they celebrated the defeat of a
monster, they were celebrating the murder of a person…
To tell them that the creatures they mocked and killed were
people who were trying their best (in vain) to not attack them…
Could anyone be that cruel?
William wasn’t.
He devirtualized himself, and shut down the supercomputer.
Walking back from the factory, for the last time, he closed
his eyes, trying to think of something.
Anything to drown out the deafening roar of silence.
And I'll take 22!

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
You took that from this fanfic, didn't you.
Sorry I have no update. I'm not sure I want to continue this as a series anymore... I'm overwhelmed. I already have my number series picked out (not cheating, though), so I'll do some writing maybe this Friday.

Re: The Corn Maze (October Challenge)
Tbh, snick, I've never seen that fic before. Not that I assumed the idea was unique when I wrote it, but I wasn't really taking elements from any other fic

If we come across the same number, we don't do another prompt for it, do we?
