What does a moderator do?
Many people are tricked into believing being a moderator is a touch on heaven's gate. Do not be fooled!
- Moderators exist to help people. As a moderator, you are to typ the language of the forum properly, understand others and express yourself well. You are friendly and eager to help a lost member.
- Sometimes problems arise, be they technical or emotional. This is when people step to a moderator and ask for help. If not, the moderator should step in and offer help. Problems need to be spotted and solved in a profesional way. A strong sense of justice is needed when it comes to solving a fight between members.
- Maintaining a forum is hard work. Topics need to be renewed. Old games moved to the archives, new games created. Every now and then, a new poll or new discussion should be made. Topics that are nearly falling apart into small dust particles due to their age have to be locked. As a moderator, you'll have some sweet new possibilities (lock, move, delete, split topics etc), but it's hard work. It's a great bonus if you can see when a topic needs to be renewed, which ones should be locked and which ones should be moved;
- A member expects that a moderator is allmighty. He or she is not, but at least he/she can pretend to be. You should know everything about the forum that there is to know, know where to find links to explanations and guides, and now the basics of bbc/html.
- As a moderator, you'll be granted access to the mod-only forum. While this is also a fun place to chat, debate and gossip about members with other moderators, it's also a place to show your creativity. In addition, sometimes staff meetings are held and these should be joined.
- As a moderator, you can not play certain games due to advantages you might have. In exchange, you'll be given a monthly CP fee for your effort so you can still enjoy the Grand Arena.
- A moderator tends to have a specific task, in which you should specialise, but don't forget to look after the other things as well. In addition, every moderator will have his/her own sector to look after. You are free to join the competitions, but don't let it cloud your judgment!
- And, last but not least, in order to do all this you have to be very active.
I think that's all my essay of doom has to offer. ^^ Still didn't click away? Then you're always free to post an application (after reading how to do so in the other sticky).
