I usually need a reference of some sort. It doesn't have to be bases, although they are pretty helpful for proportions.

I don't use bases. It depends on what I'm working on for me to use references. Usually if I can get a certain style down then I won't need references. But it really depends.

On digital, I have to use bases because I work with my mouse. On hand, though, I only use them as references.

As for me, I'm mega excited with going to Santiago de Compustela by foot next month. 3 weeks, 135 kilometers...no family or anyone to nag me arround! I'm even considering letting the phone at home!
