Desktop vs Laptop
I was going to make this a pure desktop vs laptop poll, but tablets have been on the rise. Which do you prefer to use and which is more practical than the other in all aspects?
I personally use my laptop the most. Last time I owned a desktop computer was at least six years ago. Mobility is the obvious advantage and I need it in my line of work. Laptops are more expensive and less powerful though. Not completely sure about this point, but they also appear to be faultier. As for tablets, I think I am the only one in my family who isn't into them. Both my parents spend hours chatting and just browsing the internet using their iPads. My experience with tablets is minimum and I see no reason for me to buy one. Maybe in the future when they become more powerful, I don't know.

Re: Desktop vs Laptop
My current lifestyle allows me to take advantage of a desktop computer without worrying about any drawbacks. Unfortunately I'm still relegated to a laptop but if given the choice I would still probably take the desktop.
I feel like a lot of tasks that would require a computer can be substituted via the use of some of the more advanced phones or tablets and if it's beyond that then you're probably talking about a special set of circumstances that would probably already provide some tools to do that task.

Desktop and Laptop, I'm 50-50 with them.
Desktop, for the graphical capabilities, really.
Laptop, for the mobility.
They have their own pros and cons but it's 50-50 so eh.

I’m also 50/50 between a desk top & my lap top. My family has both, & I use them both equally. On the other hand, I kind of really want a tablet. I want to be able to travel, & tablets are the perfect size to fit in a carry on as a portable music & movie player…
Re: Desktop vs Laptop
What do you use your device for? gaming, work (what kind of work?), chatting, basic browsing, multimedia heavy...etc.
I have fallen out of PC gaming long time ago. Nowadays I play SC2 every now and then plus a bunch of random games I have on my laptop that my friends have given me. Even when I was active on desktop computers, I only used it for offline games because our connection sucked back then. Anyway, I use my laptop primarily for work + keeping up with news and some social media. As you can see that doesn't require a powerful device and I am satisfied with my laptop until it starts to act funny.

Re: Desktop vs Laptop
We haven't had a desktop at home since I was 10-11, I think. I prefer laptops, but I also really like tablets. I tend to read/browse the internet on my ipad until I'm asleep, and it's a lot less annoying to use than a laptop when you're lying down (which I may or may not have tried because I wanted to lie down watching tv and skype at the same time)

fwiw, my friend's younger brother has a kindle, and it's not anything special. I'd take an ipad over a kindle any day.

@Legend: Ummmm it's an Android device, not iOS... I don't use it often enough to know very much about it. It's my dad's.
Re: Desktop vs Laptop
I have Htc One X so I have experience with android system. One of my friends keeps telling me that it sucks compared to iOS but I am not sure.

I have a Motorola Droid 4, which worked just fine until the last software upgrade which got rid of the sleep setting and totally screwed up my keyboard settings.
It's still better than my mom's iPhone. It has to be rebooted once or twice daily.

Re: Desktop vs Laptop
For my purposes(internet, Office software+PDF, Skype) a laptop is enough. Mobility is also important, since I attend a university in another city and sometimes want to bring my computer home.
There is a desktop at my home, but we use it mostly as data storage and occasionally for games.

I use a laptop. Desktops are kind of slow now, and tablets are sometimes hard to work with.
