I was obsessed with Aelita when I was like 7 and season 1 was all over Cartoon Network. I wanted her to be real and to be my bestest friend.

Ugh...seriously?! Are you for real? Please tell me you're just trolling because I can't believe that you can possibly be this ridiculous! Aelita is a freaking cartoon character! Stop getting so worked up when someone doesn't like her because guess what? There are people in the fandom that don't like her and they have every right. And, you realize that calling people "stupid" kind of violates XL's rules about being respectful to one another don't you? And...this is Atlas we're talking about. He's the king of trolls!

Back to the actual topic on hand: I actually really like Aelita, though more so earlier on in the series. I'm still not sure how I feel about her portrayal in Evolution yet (I know, we're a good way into that series and I still don't have a feel for her. ) I really liked her naive demeanor when she was stuck on Lyoko and when she first came to earth, though I'm also happy to see her character develop throughout the series into a very strong girl who has lost so much. Though I do like William and Yumi more, she comes in 3rd on my list of favorite characters in the series.

Thank you Quin and Snickie for your passionate defense of my totally correct opinion. Man it's good to be the admin.

In total seriousness, Aelita is really hard to swallow. Not that she's a bad person or whatever so much as she feels like she sticks out too much in a cast that's pretty believable otherwise.

So she's this teenage girl (in Earth time) whose dad (+mom?) was part of some form of shady organization/research project that developed Lyoko and XANA but apparently it went belly up and her family managed to hide out in some really convenient house in the middle of a school-owned forest which also happens to have open access to the sewers. There's also the possibility of living somewhere snowy but pure speculation there. We know the mom got taken at that point anyway (how they escaped idk. the mother isn't important anyway.)

She and her father stay in said forest house for a considerable amount of years before the organization comes and gets her and her father (about darn time). Moving from there they go to a homemade version of a Supercomputer that wasn't touched/discovered even in the middle of being chased by the M.I.B. .... somehow. We also assume Franz built the thing himself. After which she sleeps in Lyoko for ~13 years. The father is doing some other thing since for some reason he didn't stick with her daughter(again we don't know what happened).

On top of ALL that she has pink hair. -.- I call fake.

Maybe they answer a lot of my questions in Evolution, but can you see what I'm getting at when I'm saying that Aelita's character backstory is really darn convulted at best and just nonsensical at worst?

I think that’s actually why I like her, because she has lots of room for development. Who knows what actually happened to her before the show began? We’re only really looking at part of the picture, so some of it won’t make sense until we find out more…

Aelita is awesome. There are moments- they all have them- when she does something childish or stupid, but she's smarter and braver than she used to be .Out of all, she may have grown up the most. And yeah....she has a LOT of...um...hormonal fanboys/fangirls (notthatIblamethemsometimesI'moneofthem) who like her also because she's freaking adorable. BUuuut yeah...shallow, we can't always be and just talk about her outward qualities.
So...um...yeah. Aelita PWNS, Princess of Lyoko and Mrs Einstien, I don't care what Laura can do.
Aelita's better, she was there first. ^^

Funny enough, I never liked her. When I was little, I saw her as a typical princess girly girl
Now I see her as the 'less intelligent female' which is a stereotype I despise, as it plays no purpose. Jeremie is established to be the smartest.

Eh, you can't judge a character by his\her fanfictions though. That's just not fair. Fanfictions are far from canon so they have no bearing on the actual character themselves.

I also want to say that I kind of have to disagree with ya on some points though. I think that there's nothing wrong with a female character being "girly"...that doesn't make them any less awesome or any less of a good role model. Many girls ARE girly and there's nothing wrong with that. Not all girls need to be tomboys. In fact I think that makes Aelita's character stronger. (Though really, the only thing "girly" I see about Aelita is the fact that she really likes pink and her wardrobe reflects that).

And just because she's "not as intelligent" as Jeremie (which I would have to disagree with you on that. Time and time again she's shown to be just as intelligent as Jeremie is but unfortunately I think Evolution is doing a huge disservice in that regard...), however that doesn't make her dumb either. I mean just because she's "not as smart as Jeremie"* doesn't mean much as Jeremie's a genius. Aelita's intellect just about matches his which also makes her a genius. What's more, Aelita is incredibly bright AND becomes an incredibly skilled warrior on Lyoko. I daresay when you put the intellectual and the "warrior" (for lack of a better term) together I'd say Aelita would dominate completely out of each and every character.

I'm not saying any of this in a mean way so I hope no one takes offense to it. I just get a bit annoyed when people write her off as a girly character that fills stereotypical roles just because she dresses in pink and has wings.

* = Again I would completely argue that Aelita is just as intelligent as Jeremie. And there's more than computers and science to measure intelligence as well.

Alright, you bring up some good points. I was looking at her role, more than her character. In so many shows/books there is a very intelligent lead, and a slightly lesser intelligent female who exists to find details the lead missed, and it's just not a stereotype I like.
In terms of being girly, I totes agree with you, but when I was younger, it irritated me.
And about the fanfictions, I agree. But I feel there is truth behind them, and it drives me insane that anyone who has a scrap of sanity believes Jeremie should sacrifice the world to spend time with her.

I really like the character development Aelita's gone through. I don't support all of her actions, but I think it's really realistic in regards to what happened at the end of season four and the adjustments she's made to the human world. At some point, I think she did have to be a little less naive, and this is how the writers of CLE chose to show it! I understand that some people preferred her old self (this actually isn't in reference to any discussions on XL; I've been hanging about tumblr too much lately, lmao), but I don't see how it would've been realistic. At some point, Aelita was going to wise up, imo.

I also like her relationship with Jeremie better now, funnily enough. This isn't the JxA thread so I won't say much, but I do want to say that they seem to have less of a dependence on one another, especially Jeremie? It's refreshing now that they're older and they have both matured.
