FRIPS the fic

Kelly's making me upload it.
Some people may remember that there was an XL fic challenge early 2011 where we had to write about XL and its members, and after some chat shenanigans I ended up starting a superhero one, but never finishing (even though everyone was pestering me. A lot.). I uncovered the plan and attempted introductions the other day, so here they are.I'm not uploading them elsewhere so I'll just put them under spoiler tags, they're not very big after all
Friendships and hierarchy were written based on what they were at the time. The office system wasn't fleshed out in what I did write though, I didn't make it that far. Oh and FRIPS are chips that give you superpowers.

Some people may remember that there was an XL fic challenge early 2011 where we had to write about XL and its members, and after some chat shenanigans I ended up starting a superhero one, but never finishing (even though everyone was pestering me. A lot.). I uncovered the plan and attempted introductions the other day, so here they are.
Friendships and hierarchy were written based on what they were at the time. The office system wasn't fleshed out in what I did write though, I didn't make it that far. Oh and FRIPS are chips that give you superpowers.
Plan:

- - Newbie arrives at office, a story writing company
- They're shown around by Legend
- Shown all the offices; Aeon is surfing dA with me and we're told to go back to work
- Aeon returns to her completely normal office
- Crashing and yelling is happening in the Yay office, so Legend avoids it
- They pass the newbies in training, being talked to by another mod
- Someone runs in alerting them to a monster right outside, and the power goes out, Xana symbols on the screens (which are still turned on yes)
- The other newbies give the new one sympathetic looks
- Legend gives the main a rundown on frips - superpowers, but the nweb is hesitant to eat any so Legend takes them outside to watch the fight
- The narrator hangs back on the roof with some ranged fighters including me, all in superhero suits
- A huge monster with the Xana eye is moving towards the building destroying things (the surrounding buildings are empty, used for simulations like this one)
- Someone says the monster was sent by Xana, and everyone tries to stop it reaching the building
- They fight it off, but it still continues and the narrator still won't eat frips despite how much the ranged fights are trying to make them
- The narrator uses binoculars to watch the fight
- Xana appears in the distance (narrator spots him) and I go for it with a riper snifle
- Xana supersmokes ovr to the rooftop and knows all the ranged fighters back into a wall and unconscious - not Kelly, so she can heal them later
- The narrator fumbles around and finds a pack of frips, taking one to get superpowers...and turns invisible
- Xana stops and laughs (not evilly but from humour), everyone returning to the rooftop
- The monster has disappeared and everyone goes back inside
- Everything is explained to the narrator; it is a training exercise, the monster was a drawing brought to life and Xana is actually Railen, the boss, power-out was caused by Binary
- In the end, the narrator is asked if they'll join or not

- Tall office buildings loomed on either side of the deserted road I drove down. They all looked the same; bleak, grey concrete with only two three-digit numbers on the front of each to distinguish one from the other.
360-390...391-419...420-450...
None of those were what I was after. Looking ahead I spotted one building that stood out among the rest. It was far more modern-looking than the others, the front face made completely out of glass. Large letters in blue read,
Xana's Lair 750-780
This was the place. I drove down the ramp to the underground parking, stopping at a closed gate.
"Halt!" I jumped, startled by the voice booming from the intercom on the wall. "Who goes there?" the male voice continued.
"I...it is I, the new recruit." I replied.
"Enter." The light on the device turned off and the gate opened.
There weren't many cars in the small space, meaning lots of choice in spots to park. As I grabbed my bag and locked the car, a colourful van caught my attention. It was painted in bright fluoro colours, with "Yaymobile!" written on the sides. Perhaps it was something used for promotions.

- I took a deep breath as the lift slowed to a halt. This was it, this was the day that could make or break my writing career. [probably should've added something here about what XL was, the famous yet mysterious writing company, but I didn't] The doors opened.
A man jumped out at me, "Welcome to the Lair!" he startled me.
The man brushed it off, "Don't be afraid, it'll be fine. I'm Legend and I'll be taking care of you today."
I shook his hand, "Pleased to meet you, Legend. I'm-"
"Yes, I know who you are, I've read your profile. Railen, our boss, is very busy at the moment, so how about we take a tour before your interview?"
"...alright."

Of course I'm making you post it. <3 I still remember that FRIPS convo where we decided we'd all get superpowers. And I remember you talking about maybe writing one for the challenge, excuse you, your royal fripsness.
AND I LOVE THIS PLOT IDEA. It'd be interesting even if you didn't put XL people in there (which I like that you put XL people in there; but if it would get you writing again, not having XL members that is... -hisssss-). A writing company just sounds interesting, especially if it's disguised as a writing-company-with-people-who-have-superpowers.
the yay co is forever canon though we wouldn't have been friends here, because we didn't become friends until after we made the switch from meebo. ;a;
It's interesting to look at how things have changed though. If I'm remembering this not so horribly, this was sometime after Kayla and Angel had joined who don't post here anymore, but now we have a lot of awesome newer members that I still swear have been here forever. Aeon is even higher up than she was before which makes me laugh. But like, I didn't realise 2011 was so long ago internet-wise. We've had so many people come and go.
