M&P: Hospital of Murders
I'm lazy and impatient. XD
SeeMeInTheShadows wrote:Time for the next round. Heads will roll. (Or you know, something equally as death-y).
Here are some instructions, ask if you have any questions. If not, our previous game, M&P: Evolution was a fantastic example of a good game, hosted by our lovely Koneko on Lyoko with the help of Cats and Snickie as our murderer and our Psychic.
- Instructions/How to for M&P:
Anyway, here’s a neat little summary of what exactly goes on when playing Murder and Psychic (most commonly called M&P for short)!
Who — the host, a murderer, a psychic, regular members
What — The murderer kills one person off by round (can be either regular members or the psychic). The psychic tries to hint in the thread who the murderer is by pointing to clues that are hidden in the scenes that the host(s) writes. The trick is that the psychic needs to act like a regular member and arouse no suspicion so that the murderer doesn’t kill him off. Once the psychic is gone, he’s gone for good for this game. The regular members also try to figure out the clues though they have no indication of whether they’re guessing right or not — the psychic doesn’t necessarily need to guess right, he just needs to make logical connections.
How — There are as many rounds as can be done. The game will either end because the murderer has been voted off (and therefore cannot kill anyone anymore) or because the murderer has made it to the end of the game without getting voted off. Voting will be done by PMs. You PM the host(s) with your vote of whom you think is guilty of being the murderer and the votes are all tallied up. If there is a tie, no one gets voted off. It doesn’t happen too often though, so usually there’s one person voted off every round. One thing to remember is that voting is crucial! The murderer will still kill people whether or not someone gets voted off that round, and if you don’t vote…if the murderer decides to vote and his vote is the only vote, then his vote does indeed make it that an innocent person is voted off. Really guys. We need to get this ebil murdurur here. Let’s not be counterproductive.
When — As I said, there are rounds. Before the first kill, the host usually writes a short and sweet (or lovely and long) introduction scene showcasing all of the people that will be playing M&P this game. It’s just a fun thing that sets the scene for the whole game. Past games have dealt with going to an amusement park (and getting murdered!) and going to a very much tangible Xana’s Lair Forums as a group (and getting murdered!). The setting is basically anything the host feels like writing. After the introduction scene and after getting a few comments on it (it’s always nice to garner interest), the host posts the first murder scene. Everyone who’s playing (but the host and the person who just got killed off) discusses the murder and what he or she think the actual clues are — the host/murderer is allowed to put false clues in to trick everyone. There’s a deadline that the host will set for sending the votes in for whom you think the murderer is, and to send your votes in, you PM the host (or hosts if there’s more than one host). The votes are tallied and either another murder scene is written if someone gets killed off, a capture is written if the murderer gets voted off, or a safe scene is written if there’s a tie/no one gets voted off.
- Kelly's Impossibly long Q&A: Click at your own caution:
☆ Can I still comment and discuss about the murders in this thread if I've been voted off/killed?
No, because those evil people who voted you off or that evil person who killed you off have taken this privilege away from you. I'd suggest you start screaming at them/attempting to kill them. RIGHT. NOW. (no, really)
☆ Can I discuss M&P with people over chatbox/YIM/other chatting services?
Well, yes, you technically can. I can't stop you. Enzo can't stop you. Even Kayla or Shadows, our admins can't stop you. But it'd be nice if you didn't because M&P isn't half as much fun if everyone knows who is who. The suspense and mystery is really part of M&P's charm!
☆ How are the murderer and psychic chosen?
Honestly, getting volunteers is the way to go. It's best to have a willingvictimvolunteer rather than the host having to PM someone to be the murderer/psychic. And what do you have to do? All you have to do is ask! ;] You can just PM the host (if there's two hosts, please PM both). It is first come, first serve, though. So PM quickly if you really want the position.
☆ If I PM the host about being the murderer/psychic, is there an approximate time frame of when they should be getting back to me?
I'm just going to say that we'll have a cookie-cutter reply ready. And when I say that, I mean, no matter which position you ask for, you're going to get the same answer: "You will find out if you have the position of the murderer/psychic (whichever one you asked for) at least a couple of days before the intro scene is written." I'm not trying to be mean about this, but because M&P does tend to get pretty intense and everyone is accusing each other, it would be pretty telling if someone asked to be the murderer and Enzo/I said that the spot had already been taken. This is because that person would then be able to hypothesise that the murderer/psychic had joined M&P (and therefore asked to be the murderer/psychic) before them.
☆ In the case that there is more than one host (a group hosting), can I just PM one host when PMing my vote?
Preferably not, if only because votes are way different than becoming the murderer or psychic. For one thing, if everyone's voting, there'll be ten-ish votes, give or take a couple. That just makes it more difficult for the hosts. The group hosting thing is a bit iffy now since I think Enzo and I are the first ones to try it (and even so, it was just this little tentative idea floating around chatbox; I've been pretty lazy about this and have no idea whether or not Enzo will actually be able to group host with me). In the future, there might be one host designated for receiving the votes, but I don't know. It all depends on how well this M&P goes.
☆ How long does a usual game of M&P take?
It depends on the time the host is able to spend on M&P. Obviously, the host has to give adequate time for everyone to get their votes in, since people have lives (there are these three tricky things called school, friends, and family). So for a voting period of a week (including the writing of the scenes and the intro scene) and with ten people playing, at the minimum it'd take one month and three weeks. And that's an extremely low estimate, mind you.
☆ Can the host get voted off?
Yeah, they can. They still have to write the scenes though, so it's not like you can actually get rid of them — I know. How terrible.
☆ Can the host also be the murderer/psychic?
Yeah, but I'd say it's pretty rare. But the option is there.
☆ How do I become the host?
M&P doesn't usually start with the host making a thread, honestly. It usually starts with a thread being made by one of the mods/admins and people sign up and sometime, somewhere along the way, someone volunteers to be the host. One thing to remember is that hosting requires a bit of your time. No, you don't have to have perfectly edited Stephen-King-worthy writing, but still...you do have to write something each time someone gets voted off or is killed by the murderer. The host also asks the murderer who they want to kill off, what clues the murderer wants to use, etc.
☆ Do I have to be active to join?
It'd be nice if you could post every once in a while. You know, offer your insight on the kills and it'd be super nice if you could vote each round. But people have things to do, places to go that most likely do not involving going to XL (which I should say is impossible, thank you very much). And this should go without saying, but the murderer and psychic most definitely need to be active. But obviously, if you have a family crisis and are overloaded with schoolwork, well no duh you should focus on that stuff first.
Cya is our lovely host this round.

Re: M&P: Hospital of Murders
Now that we have our group together, I still need people to PM me with what role they want in this round. You don't necesarrily need to be active to be either one, but we certainly need both to proceed with the game.
So please send me which you'd rather be, and we should be able to get this started soon!
EDIT: I'll be closing the openings for applications Tuesday at 8:00 PM EST.

Re: M&P: Hospital of Murders
It’s just one of those normal, somewhat crazy days at XL Memorial Hospital. The day is starting new, and the patients are arriving.
It’s time to start the day…
“Ugh, I don’t want to have to look at another patient today, if I do, I-” the young intern’s rant was cut off by a huge yawn.
Dr. J glanced over at her, a wry smile on his face. “Tough first night on call?” He commented mildly.
JueJue, the intern, cut a glare at him, but didn’t comment, knowing that, as a doctor, he had gone through his internship, and knew exactly what she was going through.
Just then one of the nurses came in.
JueJue looked at him, half fearfully. “Cats! I hope you’re not here to tell us-”
“-that there’s a patient who needs to go to the ER? No.”
JueJue breathed a sigh of relief.
“There are four.”
Dr. J laughed at the shocked look on the intern’s face.
“Well, we’d best get started,” he said, a smile growing on his face. “We’re going to have a rather… busy day.”
“The doctor will be with you shortly,” the secretary, Soul, told the impatient patients. Really, there wasn’t that much wrong with them.
Stella had been out jogging a few weeks back when she had been hit by a car. However, she didn’t report it at the time. She wouldn’t tell Soul why she hadn’t reported it, and only said that she was back because she said her arm had been bothering her.
“Judging by how the car hit you,” Soul said, after Stella had related the problem to her “I’d say it was fractured, or maybe broken.”
Stella glanced at her arm. “At least it’s not the arm I’m strongest with.” She took a seat and started thumbing through a sports magazine.
Snickie was a young prodigy and a musical genius, and had gotten into a nasty fight with someone, though she wouldn’t say with who, or why. The fight had escalated, and she had been battered and bruised and someone had ended up giving her a nasty slice on her hand and a bump on her forehead.
“Try and staunch that bleeding with these,” Soul had said, handing her some bandages. “A nurse or doctor will be out in a few seconds. Fortunately that’s neither deep, now does it even cross a major vein.”
Snickie nodded, sighing, wrapping her hand. She took a seat, and stared off into space, humming some song under her breath.
Kelly, had, yesterday, gone to bed with an awful stomachache, and had self-diagnosed herself with appendicitis. When she had woken up that morning with it worse, she drove herself to the hospital.
“How much worse does it hurt from last night?”
“I-I don’t know,” Kelly said, eyes wide, looking pained. “I’m not sure.” She was panting hard, coughing slightly, which caused her to wheeze.
“I just want to make sure it’s not ruptured. That’s far more dangerous.”
Kelly looked worried at this, and her breathing became somewhat worse.
“Don’t worry, hun.” Soul said. “Someone will be with you soon.”
Atlas… well, he was being rather enigmatic about what was wrong with him, but she couldn’t turn him away.
“Can you give me more in depth than, ‘something seems wrong’?”
“If I could, then I would have, wouldn’t I?”
So, some problems.
Still. Nothing fatal.
Soul spun her chair around, to face the door. Hopefully one of the doctors would come through soon…
“Excuse me,” Atlas asked. Soul glanced over.
He gestured at Kelly, who was bent over, wheezing.
“She can’t seem to breath. Would you…”
“Doctor!” Soul called loudly.
Doctor Cya was walking by the ER ward when she heard someone call out loudly for a doctor.
Instinct taking over, she rushed in. “What is it, what’s-”
She rushed to Kelly’s side, scanning over her. Was she choking?
No, she wasn’t choking, she was wheezing. And quickly approaching unconsciousness.
“Asthmatic,” she muttered under her breath. “I’d bet my life on it.”
“Move over, move away!”
Cya glanced up to see a nurse come in. She was wielding a gurney, which she quickly loaded Kelly onto.
Kelly was quickly reaching unconscious. “Don’t worry, we got you. Soul,” she called sharply to the secretary, “page a surgeon, we’re gonna need to get this done ASAP.”
“Right,” Soul said, pressing several buttons on the phone. “We need a surgeon stat. An asthmatic with appendicitis. Whatever, just send someone.”
It didn’t take a minute for a new figure to rush into the waiting room. It wasn’t just a surgeon, it was the head surgeon, Kay.
“She’s in room-” Soul started, but Kay held up a hand, and rushed in the room where Shadows had disappeared with Kelly.
Soul took a deep breath and turned to look at the occupants of the waiting room.
Atlas looked amused.
Stella looked worried.
Snickie looked somewhat irritated, as blood was now all over her outfit.
The other woman stood looking a bit confused.
Soul frowned. “I’m sorry, who are you?”
“Oh! I’m Dr. Cya. I’m-I’m actually not supposed to be here, I just heard someone calling for a doctor. I work in a psychiatric hospital, I was here for a meeting…”
Soul nodded. “Well, I’m afraid you three are gonna have to wait,” she said, addressing the waiting patients. “We’re working on a bit of a skeleton crew today.”
In the OR, Dr. J had sedated Kelly. JueJue had gotten to insert her first ever breathing tube as an intern, and the head surgeon was just about finished setting up.
“Alright!” Dr. J said. “Let’s-”
He was cut off by a rumbling, as the whole hospital seemed to shake.
“Is that an earthquake!?” JueJue shrieked.
There were shouts of alarm coming from the waiting room. Sand and rocks of cements fell from the ceiling.
The doctors ducked under the cover of a metal table, while the two nurses carefully (and quickly) moved Kelly into safety too.
There was a crash as a rock fell onto the EKG, silencing it’s beepings.
Kay hid her face in her arms, to prevent from breathing the dust.
Dr. J and JueJue followed suit.
The two nurses, Cats and Shadows squeezed their eyes shut, as the hospital rumbled.
In the waiting room, there was a crash as the light from the ceiling fell, plunging the room into darkness.
The building shook a bit more, before stopping.
Everyone stayed still for a few minutes, to make sure it had stopped for good.
When Cats finally opened his eyes, he was greeted to the sight of a banged up looking OR, and a bunch of hospital staff huddled under a metal table.
He glanced at the patient, Kelly. Instantly, he knew something was wrong.
Kay must’ve noticed at the same time.
“Oh God, no,” she whispered.
Part of the breathing tube that had been providing Kelly with oxygen had been completely squished by a fallen rock.
“Resuscitation, stat!” She called out.
In the waiting room, the five had managed to feel their way out of the room and into the hallway.
They stumbled into the OR a few minutes later, to find the three doctors and two nurses looking solemnly at Kelly.
All eyes looked at the blocked tube.
“Is she-”
No one answered Stella’s half-given question.
“What a tragic accident,” Cya murmured.
“Not an accident.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
“Not an accident,” Atlas repeated. “Look.”
He pointed at the distinctly shaped rock on the ground.
Then he pointed at the distinctly shaped hole it had come from.
They were about twenty feet apart.
“The only way that rock could’ve gotten on that tube was if someone had moved it from where it fell. Besides that, look.” He gestured at the table that the tube went under.
The rock was on a part of the tube that was under the table.
“No, this could only have been done by someone. On purpose.”
There was dead silence in the hospital room.
“But,” Snickie whispered. “Whoever did that… They must have been one of us.”

Re: M&P: Hospital of Murders
Noooooo. Whoever's the murderer, JUST YOU WAIT, I am going to come to your house with a herd of angry ostriches on Christmas, 5 PM, and we'll duel it out.
The rock seems really obvious, but again, murderers have done that before, I think. Anyone with an interese in rocks, geology, the earth here? It's hard to tell which are clues and which aren't because since this is in a hospital, while I'd love to start pointing fingers at anyone with anything to do with surgery/car accidents/etc, it's pretty tough. I love the setting though. If there's anywhere I had to die...

Re: M&P: Hospital of Murders
Atlas is sitting in his appointed seat, looking exasperated.
"Why are you people doctors again? I have to tell you that rocks falling is kind of weird. And you can't even figure out what's wrong with me."
"The room service here sucks!"
[Anybody we know that has an unhealthy interest in rocks and/or holes?]
