Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Code Lyoko Season 1 Episode 10: The Girl of the Dreams
In today’s episode, Aelita’s fraternal twin arrives in Kadic. Jeremie completely loses every bit of logic he has, while XANA decides to close out Pick on Yumi Week with possessing her family’s samurai armour.
It’s about time something happened in the Mountain Sector. It could’ve been introduced a lot earlier as a battleground, which would be great for variety for the general environment of Lyoko. Speaking of variety, this is the first episode that involves two sectors of Lyoko for their mission, which is a great idea. Too bad that there wasn’t a lot going on in both the sectors though, as the Mountain Sector had no battles, but Aelita, while the Forest Sector had only two enemies and the tower.
Variety on Lyoko sadly, is the only high point in this episode. There’s a missed opportunity in this episode, one being the lack of Milly and Tamiya’s involvement. It’s nice to see them back, but they could’ve been used to come with Taelia to the Factory with the Police, since they’re so determined to get the first scoop on everything.
Anyway, we’re introduced to this new character. Taelia. She looks pretty similar to Aelita, hell, her name is even an anagram, which is a name that has the same amount of letters, just switched around to form a different name. The exception is that Taelia’s hair and eyes are different to Aelita’s. Now, that should’ve been a dead giveaway to Jeremie that Taelia isn’t Aelita. But considering he’s been waiting for Aelita, and that he didn’t see the last of his program work (because he had to rush to class), there’s a good reason he would assume that his program worked and thought Aelita was standing there before him in flesh and blood. However, what completely ruins that thought is that it would happen way too fast, and Aelita wouldn’t have amazing teleporting powers to appear on Earth and come to class in a couple of seconds. So, it’s simply a fact that Jeremie is being illogical and delusional, even when Taelia appears she has no clue about the Supercomputer and XANA and his monsters.
The animation has really taken a hit this episode too, especially regarding Taelia. Her jacket keeps on extending over her shirt underneath, then in other scenes it shows her shirt. And in some scenes Taelia’s skirt is drawn too short, so it’s almost possible to see her bum underneath it. There’s also parts where characters run impossibly fast, especially during the scene where Jeremie and Taelia had to escape the pursuing samurai. And sometimes her knees are way too low on her legs; this is especially evident when she’s standing next to Ulrich in the Supercomputer Lab. There are other instances too, but they’re not as bad as Taelia herself.
Voice acting suffered a little bit, with Jeremie sounding like a girl at a few points. But everybody else had performed fine, even Mirabelle Kirkland who had a few iffy moments with Yumi in the past few episodes.
There isn’t a lot of action on Lyoko, but there are several interesting moments though. One, the Guardian has reared its ugly head again. Why Aelita was outside the tower when talking to Jeremie is not smart of her, knowing there’s monsters that can ambush her, including the Guardian. Two, when Odd and Ulrich discover the Guardian holding Aelita captive, Ulrich points out that it was the same thing that captured Yumi… Wait, is that continuity we’re hearing? This is one of the rare Season 1 episodes that has to follow a particular episode, in this case, it’s Image Problem. And the final interesting moment is that Jeremie actually ends up killing the Guardian. Yes, Jeremie Belpois killed a monster on Lyoko. There’s not a lot more to highlight, except that Ulrich uses Triangulate for the first time, which is combining Super Sprint and Triplicate to defeat a single monster. Other than that, Lyoko feels really rushed, especially towards the end when they are in the Forest Sector.
There’s not really much to note about the XANA attack. He’s targeted Yumi too many times this week, therefore it really kills the suspense at which warrior he is specifically aiming for, knowing that she’ll be saved one way or another.
The concept for this episode was a great idea, but it was ruined by a lot of animation errors, idiocy, and the fact XANA had a personal agenda against Yumi let down the episode immensely. Well, at least Pick on Yumi Week is over!
Score: 1/10
Loose bits: The episode title itself. It looks poorly translated, and it should be something like ‘The Girl of My Dreams’ just to make it sound better.
Odd mentions that Aelita could be stuck in a storm or a blizzard to tell Jeremie why she may not be speaking to him. It would’ve been nice if those climates were implemented on Lyoko, just like it was in episode 4.
Where’s the teacher in Yumi’s classroom? Like, isn’t he/she supposed to be supervising the class while Yumi is giving her presentation?
When Yumi opens the closest to discover that her family’s samurai armour is not there, she looks at the power outlet and immediately suspects XANA did it. Has she seen XANA move through power sockets before? I don’t think so.
Jeremie shouts out, in the middle of the cafeteria, about XANA, Lyoko, and Taelia being Aelita and other information related to that, while the Police and the Principal are around as well. Wouldn’t they want to grab Jeremie and interview him, wondering what the hell he’s going on about?
Jeremie and Taelia have unrealistic sprinting animations when initially getting away from the possessed samurai armour.
Odd is missing his undershirt when speaking to Ulrich on the bench in the reception area of the Principal’s office.
Why does Taelia look incredibly peeved at Yumi? It’s not like she did anything to her, unlike what Jeremie had done.
During their first clash, the samurai just missed Yumi’s head. It’s quite scary considering she could’ve been dead right there. I thought the sword struck Yumi’s bar quite awkwardly, but once again it’s the sub-par animation that makes it seem that way.
Odd states that he’s sceptical of Jeremie’s clone of Aelita’s idea. Even though he was the one that mentioned that it was Aelita making a clone of Yumi that ended up tricking the first Guardian they encountered.
Horrible animation makes for a horrible sword vs. steel bar fight. This time, with the clash in the locker room, Yumi jumps back… with the bar going right through the possessed samurai’s sword. Animation fail.
Quotes: “I’d like to have a best friend that’s useless, you know what I mean?” – Aelita
Ulrich: This ‘whatever’ it is of yours weighs at least a ton.
Yumi: It’s not a ‘whatever’. It’s been in my family for hundreds of years.
“Whatchamacalit, whatever. What I like you most about you Ulrich, is your rich vocabulary.” – Yumi
“You know Jeremie; most people use the night hours to sleep.” – Ulrich
Jeremie: With Aelita, it’s not the same.
Odd: You’re right, it’s not the same.
“Come on, that’s the oldest pick up line around.” – Taelia
“He’s only saying that because he got brushed off big time. ‘Watch an expert and learn,’ huh.” – Ulrich
“Odd, we can’t reach her on Lyoko, because she is not on Lyoko.” – Jeremie

Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
I'd like to add that when Jeremie's in the elevator with Taelia, his head is drawn extremely...potato-like. That's the only way I can describe it. It's sooooo weird.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
I just want to say very plaintively that Taelia pissed me the hell off in this episode.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
I can attest to this. Read "Code Belpois" if you doubt Dani's annoyance with her. ¬¬
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Seems like it's an unpopular opinion but... I love Taelia. Haven't seen the episode in a while, granted, but I enjoy the mystery surrounding her and the many crack theories her existence has spawned.
I also like Starke's portrayal of her in The Forewarned.

Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Well, yeah it is interesting. But there's just a vibe she has that I freaking despise for some reason.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
That's fair enough. I really don't remember much of the episode so I'll have to watch it again and see what other thoughts I have.
Aelita rather suits long hair by the way (regarding your avatar)

Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
She does. She'd be drop dead gorgeous with hair down to her shoulder blades (At least.) Lol.
The real reason for my SN is because at one point, as you probably seen in my first picture, I dyed my hair pink lol. I loved it to death too, but I had to dye it back blonde (I'm a natural blonde) because of prom, and my new job. So it kinda sucked lol.

Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Haha, she was mean! When Odd started talking to her she was like, "Please, that's the oldest pick-up line in the book." (or something along those lines)
I was like, "Well ya jerk..."
I was like, "Well ya jerk..."
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
^ When I heard her say that line, I thought she was a stuck up attention ***** lol.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Haha, whatta brat! I'm surprised I haven't seen any Taelia couples on ff.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Oh honey... There was a LEMONS one with TaeliaxAelitaxJeremie .... That was so gross. And they've had Yumi x Taelia, and that's all I've seen lol.
Unless you're into that sort of thing, you might want to keep a barf bag handy if you read the LEMONS one...

Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Oh my gosh...it was a TaeliaxAelitaxJeremy threesome? Boy oh boy...don't quite want to read that one. A little weird.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Yeah it was kinda gross.... Especially because Taelia and Aelita may be sisters or something. (INCEST ALERT!)
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Is there a forreal possibility that they're sisters or is that just a theory spread through fandoms?
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
It says on Code Wiki that they're NOT related, but I believe otherwise. Then again, they might've made that episode to play with our heads. But I still believe they're sisters though.
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Yeah, it could be a thing that leaves you hanging. Wiki also could easily be wrong because anyone can change things on there can't they?
Re: Code Lyoko Episode 10 Review
Yeah they can, but who knows? They may be sisters from another mister !
